Spring is finally here after a long winter. As the seasons change so do your home energy efficiency tactics. Here are some energy tips to help maintain your home energy efficiency this spring.
Air condition maintenance
Spring leads right into the summer and it’s the perfect time to get your air conditioners serviced and cleaned out. It’s a great idea to get started on your summer prep in the spring to reduce how much work you have to actually do in the summer. Spring is the perfect time to take out the air conditioner and clean out the filters and coils so they run efficiently when the hot weather comes.
Use ceiling fans
Spring days can fluctuate between cold and warm days. In order to maximize your energy efficiency, use a ceiling fan or a standing fan if you don’t have a ceiling fan instead of the air conditioner. Ceiling fans help to circulate air in your home and maintain your comfort without having to use too much electricity.
Seal ducts
Air loss through cooling ducts and vents can account for up to 30% of a cooling system’s energy usage making it inefficient[1]. The best way to avoid this is to seal and insulate air ducts and filters to enable them to run efficiently while saving on your home energy bill.
Outdoor cooking
On warmer spring days instead of using the ovens to cook, use the outdoor grill to save on home energy while enjoying a beautiful spring day.
Open windows
To go the extra mile to warm and cool your home in the spring without using your heater and fan too often, you can open up the curtains and windows. Opening windows early in the morning on warmer days lets in the cool fresh air to freshen up and cool your home. On colder days with lots of sunlight, leave curtains open so the sunlight can warm up your home during the day when no one is home. This removes the need to run the heater and still have a cozy home when you return.
